TAG me: Teach, Act and Grow
TAG: I am Do Thanh Nhan, a lecturer at Can Tho University in Vietnam. I recently had the privilege of getting involved in the Teacher Activity Groups (TAG) project on Zoom, which was funded by the British Council and implemented by the Celtic English Academy in partnership with Can Tho University. In my role as a project assistant, I assisted other teachers with English-Vietnamese interpretation. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it challenging for educators to stay connected and continue to learn new skills in physical meetings. However, the TAG project provided us with a much-needed chance to connect online, share knowledge, and engage in meaningful, animated discussions with teachers. Further, without TAG, I will not have any chances to share with thoughts like writing in this competition about the British Council.
Teach: One of the most pronounced benefits of the TAG project was good time to collaborate with teachers from different subject areas, including English, Mathematics, and Science. This allowed us to share knowledge and expertise, which not only broadened my horizons, but also enabled me to develop new relationships with like-minded educators. In addition, through the project, I have been exposed to new approaches to teaching and classroom management to become a more effective teacher. Specifically, I have gained valuable insights into how to engage and involve learners in the class activities like interesting ice-breaking, which has led to better teaching quality and students’ improved learning outcomes.
Act: The project funded by the British Council afforded me opportunities to have data to write scientific papers with my colleagues, which reinforced my scientific profile on one hand and tighten working bonds on the other. What I have gained from the project assisted me in planning and attracting students in partaking in my activities so that the learning atmosphere and outcome increase hand in hand.
Grow: To be honest, at first, I was somewhat reluctant about whether I could fully accomplish the project or not. However, the support and encouragement from my colleagues and the organizers of the project helped me to overcome my fears and gain greater self-confidence upon completion. I think this is the most treasured experience I had. I am so glad I gave it a go!
Me: In conclusion, the ability to participate in the TAG project online funded by the British Council has been a game-changer, allowing me to continue learning and sharing knowledge while being safe at home. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity that I was part of the project, arming me with invaluable professional development opportunities. I would highly recommend the project to any educator who is passionate about improving their teaching skills and building lasting relationships with other educators. I am looking forward to continuing my involvement in similar projects. Please tag Me. Thank you very much!
