Welcome to the homepage of the 11th New Directions in Language Assessment East Asia conference.

The 11th British Council New Directions in Language Assessment East Asia will be held this year in Hanoi, Viet Nam, not only as a well-recognised event bringing together the language testing and wider educational communities in the region and beyond, but also as a proud part of the UK-Vietnam Season of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of British-Vietnamese diplomatic relations and the 30th anniversary of the British Council in Viet Nam.

After a decade of bringing together the language assessment and learning community of East Asia to engage in discussion on key topics and to share innovative solutions to challenges in testing and education, the New Directions in Language Assessment East Asia 2023 conference convenes under the theme: The Future of English Language Assessment in Learning Systems, looking to the future of assessment as a driver of learning and education system reform.

New Directions East Asia 2023 is supported by The National Foreign Languages Project Viet Nam (NFLP).

This year's New Directions East Asia will take place on 27-29 October as a three-day event.

We warmly invite all attendees to join us on the evening of Friday, 27 October, for the opening plenary, followed by a discussion session and refreshments, hosted by the Vietnam National Univeristy (VNU), Hanoi, in the Nguyen Van Dao Auditorium.

The event continues on Saturday and Sunday, 28-29 October, with two days of conference proceedings at the British University Vietnam (BUV).
