'Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today' – Mark Twain. Those are the wise words which I have lived for during my school years as well as having spent my time in the British Council.
Looking back, when I was just a middle schooler, neither did I have any plans for my study because I was at a loss, which made me fall behind my peers as I had no motivation to strive ahead. Upon entering my high school years, I was fortunate enough as my parents had suggested that I take an IELTS test to better my chances of going to top universities. After a while of looking for a good class to attend, an advertisement of British Council caught my attention and I just felt I needed to dig into why I should go to that place. Turns out, the British Council is a well-known international organisation of educational opportunities and cultural relations. Before I could take any class there, I had to undergo a series of exams to determine the appropriate curriculum and my parents were also provided with suggestions for my study.
While spending my time in the British Council, I was lucky enough to sit with students who desire going to top-notch academic institutions as well as seeking chances of studying abroad ,which greatly influenced me because they were all surprisingly studious and ambitious. The teachers were kind, knowledgeable and were always generous to help me whenever I had any problems. At first I was overwhelmed because I found it hard to catch up with my peers. However, after having a few after-class conversations with my educators, I was relieved to know that I could cooperate with the academic environment there. Soon my skills as well as the knowledge in English were greatly improved thanks to the British Council teachers’ innovative teaching methods and my persistence.. Of course I did stumble across moments when I just wanted to give up. But whenever I looked at my classmates who were doing their best to get a high band score, I knew that I needed to work harder
Time went by and when the test day came on January the 19th, I took the IELTS exams with full confidence as I knew I was well-prepared. The result was released about 13 days later and I was over the moon with an 8.0 overall. That was all thanks to my persistence and the fact that the British Council had helped me so much. Personally, I have definitely made my parents’ investment and my effort worthy.
Now recalling back, I was grateful for everything I had been through and all the time being with British Council. I have never thought that I would be the best but I always believe that I could do it and it worked.
