Role overview

The British Council is the United Kingdom's principal organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations and our purpose is to build mutually beneficial relations between people in the UK and in other countries. British Council Vietnam has a large operation including education, arts and civil society programmes, education marketing services, teaching centres and examination services, both in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. 

The post holder will report to Communications Manager and work closely with Digital Manager in a core Communications team of three. The post holder will play a key role in the wider Marketing and Communications team consisting of Business Marketing Heads and support staff in other business units. Furthermore he/she will be expected to support (and/or join) the Digital Engagement Team, which will lead content creation of the new website and social media platforms.  

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Draft press releases and assist in organising press briefings; produce coverage reports after events 
  • Develop the network of media contacts in Vietnam and the East Asia region 
  • Use the corporate content  management system effectively to update corporate website 
  • Upload content to digital channels including Regional Intranet, the Bulletin, YouTube, Flickr, Facebook and respond to enquiries within two days. 
  • Liaise with colleagues in both cities to collect news for monthly e-newsletter by the agreed deadline. 
  • Undertake other administrative tasks as required.   

The successful candidates will need to demonstrate strong evidence of behaviours and similar experience, including: 

  • At least two years work experience in similar role 
  • Digital communication skills, including familiarity with website management and social media 
  • Excellent English and Vietnamese (in all four skills), especially writing skill 
  • Good knowledge of communications tools and techniques Graduate in relevant field   

Term of Service:

  • Country appointed position, two year term contract with extension depends upon satisfactory performance
  • Annual gross salary following British Council local payband (Grade H), according to experience and qualifications, together with attractive benefit package and career development opportunities.
