The Study UK campaign, delivered by the British Council in partnership with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign, is delighted to announce the launch of the GREAT Scholarships 2025.
This year, ten universities have partnered with the British Council and the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign to offer ten scholarships for candidates in Viet Nam as part of the programme. These universities are City University, the University of London, Cranfield University, Edge Hill University, the University of Manchester, Ulster University, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Bradford, the University of Bristol, the University of St Andrews, and the University of York.
James Shipton, Director Viet Nam, British Council, shared: 'The GREAT Scholarships aim to widen access to UK education in Viet Nam and celebrate the diverse range of higher education institutions in the UK that offer a vast number of courses for students to choose from. With over 3,200 Vietnamese students choosing to enter higher education in the UK each year, the GREAT Scholarships aim to build on the strong links between the UK and Viet Nam and continue to welcome all Vietnamese students to the UK.'
The GREAT Scholarships offer students from 18 countries including Viet Nam the opportunity to undertake postgraduate taught studies in the UK from autumn 2025. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000 towards tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate course in the UK for the 2025-26 academic year. Students intending to apply for the scholarships must have received an offer of entry from one of the participating universities and must satisfy all entry requirements for the chosen course as stated by the respective university.
In the academic year 2024-25, seven GREAT scholars from Viet Nam are studying in the UK across various fields including Supply Chain Management, TESOL, Sustainable Development, International Law and Finance. Since the programme’s inception in Viet Nam in 2021, 19 scholars have received a GREAT scholarship.

The GREAT Scholarships 2025 webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn about the programme, hear from representatives of universities offering scholarships, and interact with talented scholars who received the GREAT 2022 scholarships. Among the speakers will be Nguyen Thu Loan and Nguyen Nha Uyen, two exceptional recipients from the 2022 cohort, who will share their experiences and valuable tips for succeeding in the application process.
‘The GREAT Scholarships was such a wonderful vehicle for me to reach my full potential in academic studies. This golden ticket allowed me to pursue further education in the UK without financial burden, hence enhancing my focus on study instead of worrying too much about how to earn money to cover the fee and living expenses while studying here. But, most importantly, once I became a GREAT scholar, I could broaden my network, connect with other GREAT scholars and together make this world a better place through education.’ – Nguyen Thu Loan, a GREAT scholar 2022 for MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the University of Hull.
‘I found my journey with the GREAT Scholarships intrinsically meaningful. Before completing the scholarship application, I was unsure about which field of education I should choose. However, by applying to GREAT, I was able to look back at what I had done to identify what I aspired to do in the future. Thanks to GREAT, I was able to get a better intrapersonal understanding. All in all, my advice is: if you are still reluctant, please give GREAT a chance because the journey itself is worthwhile.’ – Nguyen Nha Uyen, a GREAT 2022 scholar for MA Education at University College London.
