The Study UK Pre-Departure Briefing is back for the year of 2024. In its 17th year in Viet Nam, the event will be held in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, on Saturday 6 and Saturday 13 July respectively. This year, the Pre-Departure Briefing is a collaborative effort between British Council Viet Nam, the Vietnamese Student Association in the United Kingdom (SVUK), the UK Alumni Association in Vietnam (UKAV), and the programme sponsor, HSBC.

We organise the pre-departure briefings annually to provide essential information to all students in East Asian countries, including Viet Nam, who have received an offer from UK institutions. Every year, the programme has given hundreds of students the help they need to study and thrive in the UK. A student who attended the Study UK Pre-Departure Briefing 2023 shared: 'What I love most about the programme is that the event brings many opportunities to connect with UK Alumni, the information shared at the event is very useful, and there are many interesting activities'.

To help Viet Nam’s new overseas students be better prepared for their Study UK journey, Pre-Departure Briefing 2024 is designed for those who are going to study A Level, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate courses in the UK. The event is an opportunity for students to garner advice from stories and experiences shared by current international students studying in the UK.

‘The UK is one of the most trusted and popular study destinations in the world. Every year, over 500,000 undergraduates and postgraduates choose to study in the UK, so, as a student, you will meet people from all over the world who come from all sorts of different backgrounds. The start of a new journey can be overwhelming, therefore our Pre-departure Briefing can help ease the transition, providing information related to university life, travel experiences, social events, and activities one needs to study in the UK’, said Ms Donna McGowan, Director Viet Nam, British Council.

Pre-Departure Briefing 2024 also serves as a Fresher's guide for students who seek opportunities for socialising, networking, and forming new relationships with current students and alumni.

The key topics that will be covered:

  1. Preparing for Student Life in the UK: Students and parents receive accurate information and hear about experiences in academics, daily life, experiences, and employment, from guest students and alumni. Attendees also have the opportunity to ask questions directly to guest speakers about studying in the UK
  2. Visa information and advice by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI): Representatives from the UK Visas and Immigration service (UKVI) provide the most up-to-date information on visas and immigration procedures
  3. HSBC Premier - Your Trusted Financial Partner for Studying in the UK: Representatives from the sponsor bank, HSBC, share useful information about banking and finance services for students who study in the UK
  4. Interactions with current students and alumni: Participants can engage with representatives from the Vietnamese Students Association in the UK (SVUK) and the Vietnam-UK Alumni Association (UKAV). Interactive activities during the event not only help participants learn more about student life in the UK but also offer opportunities to network with new students and the Vietnamese student community in the area.
