Connecting Asia – preparing higher education to meet the demands of the 21st century

This will be one in a series of nine East Asia policy dialogues which will be held in China, UEA, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan. Each Policy Dialogue has a specific and focused agenda, which frame the debate on the issues affecting higher education in East Asia and the UK.
The Dialogue in Vietnam will debate about universities to response to national growth challenges. Universities need to be able to deliver the skills that are needed for productivity and competitiveness. This means that universities have to be connected with the world of work, to each other and to research institutions, both in their own countries and internationally.
This Dialogue will explore these connections against Vietnam’s new higher education law that will encourage autonomy, responsiveness and growth of its higher education institutions. Through UK and East Asia case studies, the event will particularly explore:
- governance and institutional management
- enhancing quality to promote collaboration
- research models and the role of industries/ business in commercialisation of innovation
