You can take an IELTS test either on paper or on a computer at one of our official test centres in Vietnam.
Whether you choose the IELTS computer-based test or the IELTS paper-based test, you will be taking exactly the same IELTS test, with the same test questions and structure. The only difference is that you can choose if you prefer to type your answers on a computer or write them on paper – whichever suits you best.
Book your IELTS on computer (IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training)
IELTS on computer
For IELTS on computer, you will complete the Listening, Reading and Writing sections on a computer at one of our official test centres across Vietnam. The Speaking test will still be either face-to-face or via video-call with a trained IELTS examiner, as this is the most effective way to assess your speaking skills.
Benefits of taking IELTS on computer
- Faster results – Your IELTS results will be available 1 to 5 days* after the test.
- More test sessions – Test sessions are available throughout the week according to IELTS computer-based test schedules at British Council IELTS locations in Vietnam.
- More Speaking test timeslots - Face-to-face or video-call speaking timeslots are available on the same day.
- More convenient test features such as an automatic word counter in the Writing test or text highlighting in the Reading test
- Listening test - Comfortable headphones will be provided by the British Council.
*Results for IELTS on computer are usually available 1 to 5 days after you finish all components of your test. Please note that if the results release date falls on Sunday or a public holiday, the Test Report Form (TRF) will be available on the next working day.
Schedules of available test dates for IELTS on computer are available for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
IELTS on paper
If you choose the IELTS paper-based option, you will write the answers to the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on paper. The Speaking test will be conducted face-to-face with a trained IELTS Examiner.
Your band scores for IELTS on paper will be available up to 13 calendar days from the test date.
Candidates who are in need of special assistance on test day are advised to take IELTS on paper.
