We are pleased to announce that after 29 March 2025 all IELTS tests in Viet Nam will be delivered on computer, providing a faster, more efficient, and streamlined testing experience.

IELTS on Paper and IELTS on Computer have the same test format, questions and scoring. IELTS on Computer also offers significant benefits to test takers:

  • Faster results: Receive your results in approximately 2 days.
  • Faster booking: Book your test as late as one day before registration closes depending on test locations and dates.
  • More test dates: Access more frequent test dates.
  • One Skill Retake, available exclusively with IELTS on Computer, allows you to retake just one part of the test – Listening, Speaking, Reading or Writing.

Why is IELTS moving to computer-only testing in some markets?

IELTS is transitioning to computer testing in certain markets to provide a more flexible, convenient, and efficient experience for test takers. This change will allow quicker result delivery, more test dates, and a streamlined testing process – all while maintaining the same rigorous standards for quality and fairness that IELTS is known for.

Will the content of the test change?

No, the content of the IELTS test will remain the same. The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections will be taken on a computer, and the Speaking test will still be conducted face-to-face or online with a trained examiner, just like in the paper-based test.

How is IELTS on Computer different from IELTS on Paper?

The main difference is that the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are completed on a computer instead of on paper. Responses for Listening and Reading are recorded directly on the computer, so there is no need to transfer them to an answer sheet. The Speaking test remains the same personal interview with an IELTS Examiner. Test takers also benefit from faster results, more test dates, and access to the IELTS One Skill Retake.

Is IELTS on Computer harder than IELTS on Paper?

No, there is no difference in the test content. IELTS on Computer assesses your language skills in the same way as IELTS on Paper, with no change in scoring or test format.  The only difference is the method of delivery.

How will I complete the Writing section on a computer?

With IELTS on Computer, you type your responses for the Writing section directly into the computer. Many test takers find this more comfortable, as it resembles the type of writing typically used in academic or professional settings. You can easily edit your responses and an automatic word count available.

Will the Speaking test still be face-to-face?

Your Speaking test will always be with a certified Speaking Examiner. You might be in the same testing room face-to-face, or, in certain situations, the Speaking test can be conducted using a secure video conference online platform. This provides more flexibility and availability of IELTS Speaking tests. The video call Speaking test is conducted at an official IELTS test centre with the same high standard of identity verification. The test will be the same as the in-person Speaking test in terms of content, scoring, timing, level of difficulty, question format and security arrangements.

When will I receive my results?

For IELTS on Computer, you can expect your results within approximately 2 days which is much faster than IELTS on Paper, where results take 13 days.

Will there be enough available test dates?

Yes, IELTS on Computer test allows for more frequent test dates and better availability.  This provides greater flexibility for you to choose a time that fits your schedule.

How can I prepare for the IELTS on Computer test?

We provide practice tests for IELTS on Computer to help you become familiar with how the test will look and feel. You can also access resources online to help you practice your typing speed and general computer skills. Find out more on how to prepare for an IELTS on computer test.
