I study with a different teacher every lesson. How can the teachers accurately assess my English ability?

All of our teachers have been trained to ensure that they give consistent and standardised assessment results. The teachers will monitor you and listen carefully to your speaking throughout the lesson. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the assessment criteria and apply what you've learnt in that particular lesson in your speaking. Moreover, learning English is a process. If you study regularly and review your lessons at home, your fluency, range of vocabulary and so on, are supposed to improve after a certain number of lessons.

Additionally, students should reflect on teachers' feedback after each assessment to plan their coming classes. If you need further support, you can contact our student advisors for further study advice and support.

My package duration is limited. I can only attend classes on a restricted schedule. How can I attend the classes I like or need?

We have over 120 lessons available at each level including lessons on a wide range of work, study, personal and language topics designed to meet the needs of our students. Each of the lessons will be repeated at least once or twice every 3 months, so even if you only have a 20 lesson package you should be able to access all of our available topics. You can find the lesson summaries on the Online Booking System, it’s always a good idea to look at these when you book lessons so you know that the lesson will be useful to you in meeting your English goals. You can also get one of our tailored ‘Pathways’ from our customer service team or by visiting the ‘Learner Pathways’ section of this site.

I enjoy studying with a particular teacher but I can't come to their class regularly. What should I do?

We are pleased to know that our teachers have made it enjoyable for you to study with us. We highly encourage students to attend classes with different teachers to learn about different accents from various places in the world as this is very beneficial in building your confidence when conversing with people across cultures.

We often change the teachers on monthly basis so that students can experience different teaching styles. Therefore, don't worry if you can't study regularly with your favourite teachers or do not see them teaching your level at a particular time. All of our teachers participate in ongoing training to ensure consistent teaching quality. If there's a teacher that you think has been doing a good job, we are eager to receive your feedback through our mail box: myclass.advisor@britishcouncil.org.vn.

I am used to a traditional classroom style and using a course book. How will myClass's style help me improve my English quickly?

Most of our adult students have studied in various places before coming to myClass. Additionally, everyone learns differently and aims at different goals. Through active learning, each student will have time to focus on their individual needs. This includes spending more time on the tasks that they are yet to understand as well as avoid spending time on tasks which they already master.

With myClass, you're in control of your own learning. You are free to choose the lessons that meet your needs rather than having to study fixed lessons in a course book. In every lesson you will talk to the other students a lot. If you practice speaking a lot, your English will improve quickly and you will feel more confident. Talking to other students is the fastest way to build your confidence, activate your language, improve your English, and make friends.

I think I would progress quicker by studying with people in a higher level. When can I expect to be moved up to the next level?

Our levels are based on the Common European Framework of Reference, an international standard for language ability. According to the CEFR, it takes approximately 128 hours to move between levels. Students at different levels have different abilities. There are differences in various aspects including fluency, pronunciation, range of grammar and vocabulary, and so on. The quickest way to progress is to make sure you are studying with students at the same level of English as you. If you study with students at a lower level, you will have to speak more slowly, use simpler words to get your message across. It's not beneficial for your progress. On the contrary, when you study with students at a higher level, you may feel overwhelmed and demotivated when you cannot catch up with them. What's more, teachers have different approaches to students at different levels and our materials are graded by levels. Mixing students at different levels in the same class may result in poor performance of students and affect teaching quality.

I did not receive my assessment on my assessment lesson. What should I do?

myClass learners are assessed in or around every 10th lesson. However, please note that:

  1. We do not assess in writing lessons so make sure your next lesson is a speaking one to get assessed by our teachers.
  2. Your assessment may be delayed if your teacher has a large number of students to assess. You will be assessed in your next lesson.
  3. Your assessment should be available on OBS 24 hours after the end of the lesson. After this period, if you don't see your assessment uploaded, please contact our Student Advisors at myclass.advisor@britishcouncil.org.vn.
