Strand 2: FAMLAB | British Council

The FAMLAB (Film, Archive and Music Lab) strand aims to connect Vietnam’s music and film heritage with artists, creative practitioners and other players in the cultural and creative industries.

Initiated by British Council UK, FAMLAB started in 2016 (with a second edition in October, 2018) in the UK as an experimental platform towards engendering possibilities in collaborative work between the worlds of music, film and visual archive. Within the framework of Heritage of Future Past, the Vietnam edition of FAMLAB incorporates a funding initiative, residencies, events and symposiums.

FAMLAB Fund

FAMLAB Fund provides grants packages to projects that seek to engage with Vietnamese music and film heritage through contemporary mediums.

Residencies

The Residency programme aims towards meaningful exchanges with practitioners of Vietnam’s music and film heritage and the surrounding communities at large.

Open sessions

Open Session is a series of curated events showcasing contemporary explorations into Vietnamese music and film lineages.

Activities around archived film

As part of the first year of activities, a national symposium on film archives will be held in Hanoi in January 2019

FAMLAB x Stories

FAMLAB x STORIES works with 16 emerging Vietnamese filmmakers – as well as musicians and sound artists – to celebrate the lives of five female traditional music practitioners of Hanoi.
