The research report Viet Nam: Towards a New International Education Hub in Southeast Asia – Lessons and Evidence is a collaborative effort on technical assistance provided by the British Council to the Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam (MOET) to analyse Viet Nam’s readiness to be the next international study destination in Southeast Asia. This reflects our continuous commitment to support UK-Viet Nam partnerships in higher education, transnational education (TNE), and student mobility, in line with British Council’s TNE strategy and under the signed MOC between British Council and MOET in 20221.
The research will include:
- a review of the current situation of international student mobility flows with a focus on mobility and exchange between Vietnamese universities and their international partners. This includes an analysis of national strategies, policies, and statistics at governmental and institutional levels.
- a comparative study on education hubs and reflections on Viet Nam context, including a review of different models of education hubs globally, aimed at identifying opportunities and challenges in attracting foreign investment from education institutions and organisations.
- policy recommendations on setting up Viet Nam as the next study destination in South East Asia, drawing on the findings of the former reviews.
The research report will be available by late October or early November 2024.
A shorter report with considerations particularly for the UK higher education sector, and profiles of Vietnamese universities is also made available now. See more.
