Institutional Links image

Institutional Links provides grants for the development of research and innovation collaborations between the UK and partner countries including Vietnam. The British Council runs Institutional Links in partnership with research and higher education institutions globally.

We also deliver Institutional Links under the Newton Fund. Under the Newton Fund, Institutional Links grants facilitate research that tackles local development challenges such as extreme weather conditions, access to affordable health care, food and energy security.

What Institutional Links grants cover

Institutional Links grants range from £30,000 to £300,000 over two to three years.

They cover:

  • research-related costs
  • the exchange of researchers, students and industry staff, including from small and medium-sized enterprises and not-for-profit organisations
  • costs of organising meetings, seminars and training
  • other activities to establish and strengthen collaborative links

They should be used to:

  • start and develop collaborations between academic groups, departments and institutions in partner countries and the UK
  • support the exchange of expertise and research knowledge
  • establish local hubs for UK-partner country activities.

Who can apply

The funding is available to leading researchers or established researchers, as defined by the European Commission, in the UK and a variety of partner countries.

Each funding opportunity states the countries from which researchers are eligible to apply.

Multidisciplinary proposals including those with the arts, humanities and social science are welcome.
