Future from young generation’s dreams… ‘Thắng - The boy who learns to play drums’ is the journey in finding Thắng’s traditional values by learning to play the ginang drum, a traditional instrument of Cham people.
The film was made by children of Binh Nghia village, Ninh Thuan province, under the Heritage Verité, the Heritage of Future Past project. Once young participants familiarised with basic film-making techniques they would be asked to film community interactions with their musical heritage in an everyday context, in all its unscripted actions, dialogues and happenings.
The film is clear evidence of the connection between the state-of-the-art technology of today’s generation and their local culture, giving them the strength to preserve old values of their hometown.
