A live-cinema project directed by UK video artist Esther Johnson and produced by Live Cinema UK, Dust and Metal incorporates both existing archived materials from governmental collections (such as that of the Vietnam Film Institute) and new, crowd-sourced footage – both centred on the history of motorbikes and traffic life in Vietnam throughout its history – the project seeks to unearth (un)familiar cultural and social phenomena, and to bridge future present with the past.
A specially-commissioned soundtrack will be written and performed by a Vietnamese composer/musician, with the project expected to wrap in June 2020.
