Learn English at home, why not?
You can absolutely guide your child to learn English at home even if your English is not really perfect. Don't worry because your child can learn grammar at school, more importantly, you make your child show the ability to recognize foreign languages and feel interested in learning English.
The tips below won't make your child speak English fluently immediately, but be patient and gradually you will see your child's progress.
3. Don't focus too much on grammar
When your child is young, it is not really necessary to focus on teaching them grammar rules. Through the exercises and activities you design at home, your child will gradually get used to hearing and using grammar structures in many different contexts. This will help your child learn English more naturally and accurately even when they are adults.
4. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERYDAY SITUATIONS
One of the reasons you should learn English with your child at home is because your child will be directly exposed to everyday situations, as well as objects around the house to practice English in the most natural way. For example, when your child is putting on a dress or helping you sort clothes before putting them in the washing machine, you can talk about clothes with your child (use sentences like 'Let's put on your blue socks'; 'It's Dad's T-shirt', etc.). Children will also enjoy practicing vocabulary about their toys or furniture in the house with you when cleaning their bedroom. (For example, 'Let's put your teddy bear on the bed!'; 'Can you see your blue car?'). When you take your child to the supermarket, ask them some words to describe the items on the shelves or give them a shopping list in English and ask them to find them in the supermarket.
As a parent, encourage and praise your child every time he or she completes an activity. Don’t forget to make learning fun for your child, this will definitely make your child more excited about learning a foreign language.
